Collected Poems
Since 1986 I have sculpted in English, seeking poems that work whether declaimed loudly or whispered in the mind. Never a closet poet, I have always written with an audience in mind, and I like to recite to audiences wherever I find myself. I try to write poems that will be appreciated by people both inside and outside literary circles.
This site is an ongoing project and its Collected Poems category is intended to be the definitive collection of my poetry. Every poem I publish is eventually published here. However, there are usually quite a few poems that I haven’t yet collected here because they have been published in journals, anthologies or books.
It’s a blog
In case you didn’t notice, this site is a blog. ‘Home’ shows you my latest writing and news. You can keep up-to-date by subscribing.
Why?
In 2003 I built my original website, naming it Proximity, simply to publish my poems online. As is the way with these things, it grew — as has my poetry career. In 2009 I published Coracle, my first printed collection, and began trying to make a living as a writer, performer, editor and educator. In 2010 I made Proximity into a blog, and in 2014 I rebuilt it using WordPress. In 2016 I renamed it to thepoetjackson.com. If you think I’ve missed anything, let me know.
